First-round auditions are by self tape via the 2027 HEAP Auditions Form, with supplied sheet music, audition cuts and backing or practice tracks available after submission. Video auditions are due 19 September 2026 at 23:59; results are sent by 26 September at 23:59. Invited callbacks take place on 3 October (all day) and 6 October (evening), with final results due by 10 October. All roles are open unless stated otherwise, listed ages are playing ages rather than performer-age limits, and the 2027 productions will use multiple casts. Role requirements vary: Man in Chair calls for strong comic and improvisational instincts; Janet needs strong singing, dancing and comedy; Robert and George require tap, and Robert also uses roller skates, although prior tap or skating experience is not required. Performers interested in Aldolpho, Drowsy, the Gangsters or Kitty should note that those roles take part in “Message From a Nightingale”, a number that deliberately depicts racist East Asian stereotypes and yellowface as satire of theatrical orientalism; selecting those roles is treated by the director as agreement to perform the number. Rehearsals begin in the week of 16 November in Amsterdam, normally on Tuesday evenings and Saturdays, pause after 22 December and resume on 2 January. Tech day is 21 March 2027, with full availability required from 25 March through 4 April 2027. HEAP assigns cast members to a show-support committee and expects cast members to help sell tickets; inability to pay the actor contribution does not affect casting.
