Patience

Comic operetta in which the milkmaid Patience becomes the centre of a romantic contest involving the affected poet Bunthorne, the naturally handsome Grosvenor, and a group of young women captivated by the fashionable aesthetic movement. Gilbert and Sullivan use the romantic complications to satirise late-nineteenth-century aestheticism.
