About the work
The Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du printemps) is a ballet by Igor Stravinsky, created for the Ballets Russes. It depicts rituals in an imagined pagan Russia and culminates in a sacrificial dance. The original choreography was by Vaslav Nijinsky, with scenario and design developed with Nicolas Roerich. The world premiere took place at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris on 29 May 1913.
