About the work
Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow) is an operetta by Franz Lehár with a libretto by Viktor Léon and Leo Stein. Set in Paris around 1905, it follows efforts by the embassy of the fictional Pontevedro to keep wealthy widow Hanna Glawari's fortune in the country, while her former romance with Count Danilo is rekindled.
